Huang Pei-ChiCake City

近年重要展覽包括:「A Good-for-Nothing Haunted by Things」(台南海馬迴光畫廊,2023),獲第21屆台新藝術獎提名;個展「I am trying to sing something useless.」(紐約 CAAC 456gallery/韓國 CICA Museum,2023);作品《那些偷閒的時間持續暴動中》入圍2021年高雄獎。

Born in 1994, Huang works across photography and spatial installation. Her practice centers on the instability of perception and the fractured rhythms of everyday life. Through fleeting visual encounters and subtle disruptions, she captures moments of hesitation and disorientation in the seemingly familiar.

As the artist describes, “When flipping through a book quickly, the ink on the pages sometimes catches the light and glimmers. Then, all of a sudden, an image captures your attention and draws you into the space within.” In Cake City, the cityscape becomes a restless sequence—flashing past like pages in motion—until, by chance, a moment pulls the viewer into another time and space. These scenes are not overtly spectacular, yet they provoke a quiet unease, a sense of being just out of sync. Objects appear to operate within their own logic, while the artist, like an untimely passerby, remains outside the frame.

Recent exhibitions include A Good-for-Nothing Haunted by Things at Fotoaura Institute of Photography, Tainan (2023), nominated for the 21st Taishin Arts Award; and I am trying to sing something useless at CAAC 456gallery (New York) and CICA Museum (South Korea, 2023). Her work Those Leisure time continues to riot was shortlisted for the 2021 Kaohsiung Award.
