Prophetic Forms : Si Qi Peng Solo Exhibition
Is there a prophecy hidden in the whispers of all forms? Si Qi Peng’s latest solo exhibition, Prophetic Forms, begins with her ongoing exploration of leaf-shaped ceramics. Weaving together paper, leaves, clay, and fire, she composes a unique visual language that reflects a deep sensitivity to the cycles of life and the quiet revelations of nature. Inspired by the fallen leaves of paper mulberry and Macaranga trees encountered in daily life, Peng sees these moments of natural decline as messages from the universe—subtle prophecies of ebb and renewal, lightness and burden, held in delicate balance.
Her creative process embodies a meditative rhythm and spiritual rigor. By applying layers of paper pulp and porcelain slip onto real leaves, then firing them at high temperatures, she allows the materials to vanish in flames—leaving behind porous traces and delicate textures etched like the marks of time. She adds layers of glaze and metallic finishes to the surfaces, and patiently lacquers each stem with raw lacquer, turning every piece into a quiet, deliberate act of devotion.
These works preserve not only the fragile essence of ceramics and life itself, but also offer a renewed continuation of nature’s forms. They become portals into inner perception. In silent dialogue with each form, viewers are invited to listen—to the whispers of nature, to the voice of matter, to the pulse of their own hearts. And perhaps, through the contours and impressions left behind, glimpse the wisdom of Eastern philosophy: to follow the rhythms of the cosmos and live in harmony with all that exists.
