Parallel Paths:Ariel Moscovici & Sylvie Rivillon
Parallel Paths traces the creative and personal trajectories of French artists Ariel Moscovici and Sylvie Rivillon. Both trained in Paris before settling in southern France, and share a deep commitment to exploring form, rhythm, and spirituality. Through an artistic language that transcends culture and belief, their distinct yet harmoniously parallel practices converge in this exhibition like two lifelines meeting in thought and art.
Moscovici’s sculptures revisit enduring questions of origin and coexistence between humans and nature. Working primarily with clay, bronze, and steel, he builds dynamic geometric structures where egg-like forms and flowing cuts evoke a mythic sense of cosmic birth. Rivillon’s work, in contrast, focuses on boxes, bridges, and waves—sculpted in stone, clay, and wood—to reflect on time, memory, and structure. Her compositions blend geometry with organic forms, layering textures and lines in quiet contemplation of inner order and existential rhythm.
Moscovici captures the pulse of genesis; Rivillon unveils the stillness within structure. One expressive, one introspective; one resonant, one whispering. Their works unfold like a poem—two distinct visual languages advancing the same inquiry into creation and form. In the balance between force and serenity, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on their own place in the interwoven fabric of time, space, and self.
Ariel Moscovici
Ariel Moscovici, born in 1956 in Romania, graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1979, and has lived in France for many years. Since 1995, he has frequently visited Taiwan for creative work and exhibitions. He is known for constructing geometric structures with strong tension using materials such as clay, copper, and steel, and for employing deformed egg shapes and streamlined forms to metaphorically represent the origins of the universe, life, and existence.
His works are often presented in the form of public art and can be found across various locations in Taiwan, including Taipei 101, the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, the Hualien Cultural Center, Liyu Lake in Hualien, Dong Hwa University, Taichung City Hall, Nanliao in Hsinchu, and the Taoyuan District Court, among other prominent sites. These works not only integrate into the landscape but also carry the artist's philosophical reflections on the cosmic order, spatial structure, and humanity's place, becoming spiritual coordinates in daily life.
Sylvie Rivillon
Sylvie Rivillon, born in 1959 in France, studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. After graduating in 1978, she remained at the school as a faculty member and later settled in the south of France in 1990. Known for working with natural materials such as stone, terracotta, wood, and bronze, her sculptures are layered and richly detailed, often blending natural textures with geometric contours. Through abstraction, her works metaphorically transform concepts of space, protection, and the inner world.
Her sculptures have been exhibited or installed in France, Germany, Belgium, Andorra, Spain, Greece, the United States, South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan. Since 2005, she has also focused on creating monumental sculptures, with notable works such as Elevation and Structure with Surrounding Waves, now installed in Kaohsiung and Hualien, Taiwan.
